ELYSE
SKALKA
CEO, CREATIVE DIRECTOR, COACH, MENTOR
Hailing from the Chicagoland area, I have dedicated my life to the art and discipline of dance since the age of two. My foundational training in Classical Ballet, specifically the Balanchine technique at Ballet Chicago, laid the groundwork for a lifelong pursuit of excellence. One of my most formative and honored performance experiences was dancing in the original production of The Joffrey Nutcracker, an iconic milestone that fueled my commitment to artistry and professionalism.
My passion for team-based performance emerged after relocating to Northwest Indiana, where I joined the Munster High School Dance Team. As a student-athlete, I helped lead the team to double IHSDTA State Titles in Pom and Hip Hop in 2006. This competitive success continued at Purdue University, where I served as a Captain, lead choreographer, and standout performer for the Purdue Golduster Dance Team. Simultaneously, I choreographed for the Higher Ground Dance Company, earning recognition for my innovative and high-impact routines.
After graduating from Purdue in 2010, I launched my coaching career at IC Catholic Prep in Elmhurst, Illinois, quickly making a name for myself by guiding the team to a TeamDance Illinois State Championship in Lyrical during my second year. Since then, I’ve built a reputation as a versatile and respected leader in both the studio and dance team worlds. My professional experience includes serving as an instructor and judge for the Universal Dance Association (UDA), where I’ve mentored countless dancers and contributed to shaping national-level standards in choreography and technique.
In 2019, I returned to Munster, Indiana, and rejoined the Munster Varsity Dance Team as Head Coach in 2022. Under my leadership, the program has continued to thrive and elevate. I currently serve on the Board of Directors for the Indiana High School Dance Team Association (IHSDTA), playing an active role in shaping the future of competitive dance across the state. In 2025, I was deeply honored to be named IHSDTA Coach of the Year - recognition that reflects not just competitive success, but a commitment to mentorship, inclusivity, and the development of the whole dancer.
As a dedicated member of the National Dance Coaches Association (NDCA) and a lifelong student of the craft, I have made it my mission to study with the industry’s top educators and bring elite-level training to dancers in my own community. I founded Dance Lab as a space for exploration, growth, and transformation - where dancers are encouraged to push boundaries, test limits, and unlock their full potential.
Welcome to Dance Lab - where science meets soul, and passion becomes progress.
